
Kathmandu, April 7: The filing of nomination papers for the Nepali Congress Legislature-Parliament, Parliamentary Party working committee election has completed.
The election to the NC parliamentary party working committee is taking place on Friday.
As per the NC parliamentary party statute, election is taking place tomorrow to seven posts on the parliamentary party working committee at the rate of one representative each from the seven federal provinces and to 15 posts under various reservation quota in line with the proportional representation principle.
Rajib Bikram Shah has been elected unopposed to the NC parliamentary party working committee on the ‘backward area’ quota as he was the lone candidate to the post, Member of the election committee Surendra Raj Pandey said.
Deepak Khadka and Tara Man Gurung have filed candidacy from Province 1, Prem Kishor Prasad Saha Teli and Teju Lal Chaudhary from Province 2, Dhyan Govinda Ranjit and Rameshwar Prasad Dhungel from Province 3, Kamal Prasad Pangeni and Ram Chandra Pokharel from Province 4, Bikram Khanal and Sanjaya Kumar Gautam from Province 5, Tapta Bahadur Bista and Rita Shahi from Province 6, and Dirgha Raj Bhat and Baharat Bahadur Khadka from Province 7.
Likewise, Aangtawa Sherpa, Tirtha Bahadur Lama, Jhul Bahadur Ale and Kanchan Chandra Bade have filed nomination for the two posts towards the indigenous nationalities male category under inclusive quota.
Gyani Kumari Chhantyal, Usha Gurung, Rajya Laxmi Shrestha and Pushpalata Lama have filed candidacy for the two posts towards the indigenous nationalities female category under the inclusive quota.
Buddhiram Bhandari and Rajendra Kumar KC have filed candidacy for a single post towards the Khas Arya male category while Madhu Shahi Thakuri, Gita Wagle, Chandra Devi Joshi and Sarada Poudel filed candidacy for two posts towards the Khas Arya female category.
Those filing their candidacy to contest to the one post towards the Madhesi male category are Ayodhya Prasad Yadav and Lal Babu Singh Bhuihar, and to the two posts towards the Madhesi female category are Rashmi Thakur, Pramila Devi Das and Kabita Kumari Sardar.
The lawmakers filing candidacy for the one post towards the Tharu quota are Bhutani Devi Khawas and Buddhi Sagar Chaudhary, towards the one post under the Muslim quota are Abdul Razzak and Abdul Hamid Siddhiqui and towards the one post under the dalit male quota are Narbhan Kami and Khadga Bahadur Basyal while Asha BK and Kalpana Sob towards the single post under the dalit woman quota.
The election is being held using the electronic voting machine. In this connection, Ram and Laxman Rimal, who developed the EVM, gave an orientation to the NC lawmakers on the process of casting votes using the EVM, today.
The election committee had fixed 11 am to 1 pm today as the time for filing candidacy.
The final name list of candidates would be published at 5.30 pm today and the election to the NC parliamentary party working committee held from 9 am to 12 noon tomorrow.
All the election programmes are taking place at the NC Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar.
According to the party statute, election would be held to the 22 posts in the working committee and nominations made to the nine posts including at least three women.
Besides this, the statute has the provision under which the parliamentary party working committee would be comprised of the parliamentary party leader and the deputy leader, the general secretary, the chief whip, whip and the Minister for Law as the ex-officio member when the party is in the government.
