Chitwan, Aug 24: The construction works carried out along the Narayanghadh–Muglin road stretch under bioengineering methodology is nearing final stages for this season.

The bioengineering works usually takes place during the start of the monsoon. The bioengineering method was applied in an area covering around 1600 square meters, said Narayangadh-Muglin Road Project Construction Company’s Environment Inspector Engineer Dinesh Ghimire.

The Dubo grass was planted under the bridge at Aanpatari locality where wild animals usually roam around.

The method was also applied to places where soil has been eroded including Gainghat, Riddhikhola, Bhaludhunga, Jalbire and Mugling sectors. It was also applied to where landslides are occurring. The bamboo saplings among other plants were planted in such areas, according to Ghimire.

The bioengineering method is used to prevent soil erosion, landslides and boost up greenery. It prevents the top soil from being swept away by winter wind. It looks simple but it is very important in areas prone to soil erosion and where new construction is taking place, Ghimire said.

Bhim Thapa, who is involved in bioengineering along the road stretch, said the method is applied during monsoon and will come to end for this season in about a week. He added that it will be resumed during the next monsoon at remaining localities.

Thapa further said that this year local plant saplings were used but a nursery will be developed next year to grow additional plants. RSS
