Kathmandu, May 17: As the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) prepares to crackdown on the street dog menace in the capital city, an alarming data at the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital reveals the number of dog bite cases to be above 150 per day.
Hospital Director, Dr Kedar Prasad Sentury, revealed a shocking data that of the total of around 200 patients that visit the hospital on daily basis, 150 cases are related dog bites.
Sentury blamed the failure to control the wild street dogs in the streets of Kathmandu to the increasing number of dog bite cases. The programmes undertaken for controlling the street dogs in coordination with KMC has not been effective.
Last year at least four persons died of dog bites. They were diagnosed with rabies’ symptoms when they arrived for treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the snake bite related cases in the hospital are recorded as five per day on an average. RSS
