Nepalgunj, June 17: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has reaffirmed his party’s stance on not joining the government.
Speaking at a press meet organized by Press Union, Banke, today, Deuba said, “The foremost priority of Congress remains the successful implementation of the new constitution, so we are not in any hurry to join the government.”
He also ruled out the possibility of local elections taking place in November by referring to the term of a commission related to local body structure set to expire only in mid March 2017.
“The government should either abolish the commission related to election or defer the election date, only then will the elections’ worth be proved,” Deuba said while answering a journalist’s question if NC would participate in election.
Deuba further added that the possibility over the constitution’s successful implementation depended on election of the local bodies, provinces and the national general election.
The government should hold meaningful dialogue with the dissident Madhesi Front and other agitating sides, Deuba said, reassuring of his party’s cooperation in this regard.
Deuba accuses govt of being publicity hound
Meanwhile, speaking briefly to journalists at the Nepalgunj airport earlier today, the NC President accused the incumbent government of seeking cheap publicity. The government should hew to the people’s aspirations for a change, and their sentiments, Deuba shared with a claim that his party would always remain one step ahead when it comes to implementing the new constitution.
Deuba was heading to Jumla to unveil the statue of late NC’s Jumla President, Manav Sejuwal, but his flight got cancelled due to adverse weather. The leader plans to spend the night in Nepalgunj. RSS
