It is a regular phenomenon for some days now that the people are seen gathered at every nook and cranny chit-chatting about who will make it to a win this time, while election campaigns get intensified.
Various political parties are busy visiting voters at their doorsteps in order to woo them. Like in every previous election, they have baggage full of promises and commitments. Constructions of roads, school buildings, hospitals, and irrigation, electricity and agricultural development top their priority list this time too.
The locals are also eager to participate in the polls with the hope to end the longstanding political instability, full implementation of the new constitution, and carry out development activities. “We hope the polls will bring political instability to an end, and help the country pursue economic prosperity and development,” said a local resident.
The elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies are going to hold in two phases (mountainous and hilly area in November 26, and Tarai belt in December 7).
Unlike previously, the competing political parties may find it hard to get the results in their favour this time around given the previous poll results.
For instance, in the first Constituent Assembly elections, the Madhes-based political parties swept only to be badly defeated in the second Constituent Assembly polls.
Likewise, the left alliance (the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) is trying to compensate its poor performance in the recently-held local level elections. The Nepali Congress had won majority in the polls from the district.
However, the Madhes-based political parties are hard-working to recover their lost image this time. The party’s leaders and cadres are extensively involved in the campaigns in a bid to secure a majority, said Manish Kumar Suman, a province candidate from Saptari constituency 2 (B) from the Rastriya Janata Party.
The district has eight constituencies (four for the House of Representatives and the rest for the State Assemblies).
