Kathmandu, July 4: The CPN Revolutionary Maoist led by Mohan Baidya has objected to the decision taken by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to hike electricity tariff by 22 per cent from July 16.

In a statement issued by CPN Revolutionary Maoist Spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma on Sunday, the party has pressed the NEA to retract its decision.

CPN Revolutionary Maoist has warned for stringent nationwide strike if the government does not backtrack on its decision to hike electricity tariff.

The NEA announced its decision to hike electricity tariff by 11.25 and 22.15 per cent citing its ballooning losses and service fare.

The party has claimed the strategy to import power on exorbitant prices from foreign companies, private electricity companies vested interests and intention on part of concerned government officials to draw commissions as the underlining factors at play behind the decision to hike electricity tariff.
