Kathmandu, July 30: The meeting today of the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and protesting United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has formed a nine-member committee to prepare a draft to discuss addressing the UDMF’s demands and their involvement in the next government.

The committee includes three leaders each from the NC, Maoist Centre and UDMF while the name list of the members will be finalised till the evening, said NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi.

“The meeting was called to garner support of the UDMF in the election of new Prime Minister. The meeting centered on the first point of the seven-point agreement reached between the NC and Maoist Centre before the fall of the incumbent government,” he said.

The first point of the agreement calls for amending the constitution to address the demands of the Madhesi community. In response, the UDMF leaders said that they would cast their vote in the prime ministerial election only after there is a written agreement struck on addressing their demands, Nidhi said.

The meeting was attended by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and leader Mahesh Acharya from NC and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the Maoist Centre.

Likewise, Chairman of Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party Mahanta Thakur, Chairman of the Sadbhawana Party Rajendra Mahato and Chairman of the Sanghiya Sadbhawana Party Anil Kumar Jha represented the UDMF in the meeting. RSS
