Youngest athlete Gaurika crashes out

Kathmandu, Aug 8: Nepal’s Gaurika Singh – the youngest athlete competing in the Rio Olympics – has been knocked out of the last 16 of the 100 meters backstroke heat.

Singh, who maintained 31st position, crashed out during the event last night. Athletes from Samao, Kosovo and Kenya are the only players to trail behind Singh in the competition featuring 34 athletes.

The 13-year-old athlete who was registered as the youngest to compete in Rio Olympics had completed the 100 meters backstroke clocking 1.845 minutes.

During the 12 South Asian Games (SAG) held six months ago in India, Gaurika Singh, clocked 1.731 minutes to set a new national record. She was 1.14 seconds short of breaking her own record this time. RSS
