Kathmandu, Aug 2: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist-Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been successful to draw the support from 358 parliamentarians of 16 political parties including the biggest party, Nepali Congress, to get him elected as the Prime Minister.
The lawmakers are voting to elect a new PM from the Legislature-Parliament tomorrow.
As per the notice issued by the Parliament Secretariat Tuesday, no other candidate has registered candidacy against Dahal for the PM. Dahal’s candidacy is proposed by President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, which is seconded by the leaders from the 16 political parties.
Assistant Spokesperson at the Secretariat Sudarshan Kuikel said Chairman Dahal’s candidacy of PM is supported by his party leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, and Chairman of thy Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav; leader of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Sarbendra Nath Shukla; leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Parshuram Tamang; and Co-Chairman of Sadbhavana Party, Laxman Lal Karna.
Other political parties extending support to Chairman Dahal are CPN (United), Samajbadi Janata Party, Nepali Janata Dal, Janajagaran Party, Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manch (Tharuhat), Khumbuwan National Front Nepal Tharahat Tarai Party Nepal, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik), Akhand Nepal, Dalit Janajati Party and the independent lawmaker Chandreshwor Jha.
Similarly, among 358 lawmakers supporting leader Dahal 207 are of Nepali Congress, 81 of his own party, 15 of Federal Socialist, 14 of Forum (Loktantrik), 12 of RPP, 11 of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, 5 of Sadbhavana, three of CPN (United).
The parliament is convening at 11:00 am Wednesday. Currently, there are 495 parliamentarians. As per the Legislature-Parliament Regulation, candidate for the PM should get majority of votes or 298 votes from the lawmakers present during the meeting to be elected.
