
Myagdi, Nov 12 (RSS): Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has stressed on adopting alertness on reducing the damage caused due to the carelessness of humankind.
Inaugurating the Disaster Management Operation Centre set up at the District Administration Office in Beni today, the Home Minister said the government would take policy initiatives for reducing the human-made disasters.
He said the Disaster Management Regulation was to be revised to minimize the humanitarian and material losses resulting from disasters caused by haphazard construction of roads and buildings without complying the building code.
Stating that the government was drafting a special action plan for rendering the security arrangement robust and reliable to expedite the development works, the Home Minister said the police have started a campaign, coordinating with the local level and the community, for controlling drug and alcohol abuse.
He reiterated that the government would move ahead in a more stringent manner for checking black marketeering, adding that police stations would be added to increase access to security.
Minister for Home Affairs Thapa reiterated that the government was committed to transforming the immense potentiality of tourism and hydroelectricity in Myagdi district into prosperity. He also stated that he would take the policy initiatives for addressing the problem of shortage of government employees in the district and of seeking transfer to other districts within short period.
Chief District Officer Liladhar Adhikari believed that the Centre would make it easy to collect information regarding disasters, analyzing the data and carrying out search and rescue at times of disaster.
He said the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the district administration would assign one person 24 hours a day at the Centre where the information technology facilities are available.
