Jajarkot, April 9: The District Health Office today confirmed that the diarrhoea epidemic which struck district’s Dashera and Dhime localities was now under control.

The outbreak was brought under control following an immediate dispatch of a team of health workers from local health posts and the district health office.

The epidemic was first detected among students, teachers and parents attending the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations’ centre at the Janapriya Higher Secondary School on April 1.

Health worker Ram Bahadur Thapa, who treated the patients, said 80 individuals including students and teachers were treated at the examinations’ centre whereas a total of 109 patients were admitted in the health centre as of Sunday.

Dr Diwas Sapkota, who arrived at the site hit by the epidemic from district headquarters, returned after the outbreak was taken under control.

The outbreak is suspected to have roots to the open defecation around the examinations centre and intake of stale food and lack of sanitation. RSS
