Pokhara, May 3: A massive wildfire has affected more than 50,000 hectares of forest area in the Kaski district.

The wildfires are breaking out in the jungles and forest areas across the country in the wake of a prolonged drought. The fires are engulfing thousands of hectares of land inflicting loss to life and property.

The bushfires are impacting the Panchase, Situmkaseri, Raniban and Lamachaur among other forests, said District Forest Official, Prabhat Sapkota.

He said although information was related from the local media outlets to minimize the spread of wildfire, it is still continuing unabated. Efforts have been mounted from eight area offices of the Forest Office to contain the fire.

The sky above Kaski and the adjoining areas have been blanketed with thick smog with continuing wildfire and the persisting drought. The flights to Pokhara and famous adventurous sport of paragliding have been directly affected by the smog. RSS
