Surunga (Jhapa), May 17: A person here allegedly killed his wife through strangulation last night. Deepak Agrawal, 33, of Birtamod-6 killed his wife Jyoti by squeezing her throat, the District Police Office Jhapa confirmed.

The Agarwal couple was living at a rented room at Birtamod-5 and motive behind the killing is yet to be known, Superintendent of Police Thakur Prasad Gyawali said. Police have arrested the accused killer and are investigating the case, he added.

Meanwhile, Sita Shrestha, 25, of Dhulabari-2, Jhapa has died from a snake bite.

She was bitten by a venomous cobra snake on Sunday evening as she was on the way to kitchen for preparing night meal. Though she was rushed to the Charali-based Snakebite Treatment Center, was deprived of timely treatment for lack of a ventilator and was taken to Birtamod-based Birta City Hospital.
