Lalighat landslide kills three; 10 missing

Kalikot, May 20: At least three persons killed and other 10 went missing when a landslide occurred at local main Haatbazaar, Lalighat, of Kotwada VDC, Kalikot at 11.00 last night.

The landslide has swept away more than two dozens shops located in the city area while it caused damage worth round Rs 200 million.

Rescue teams have been deputed from the district headquarters to the landslide hit areas. Along with the rescue teams, the District Police Chief, Chief District Officer and Nepal Army officials have already reached the disaster-devasatted site.

According to Man Tiruwa, a local, Hari Tirua of Syuna-5, Sanjite Tamata of Syuna-1 and his wife Dhanamati Tamata were found dead in the landslide.

The landslide has blown away everything in the bazaar area so there is nothing left, he said.

However, police said that the task of taking out dead bodies is going on so there is no situation to ascertain the number of death in the disaster.

CDO Pradeep Shrestha shared that the actual number of deaths and devastations of the landslide would come out after some while as the entire team is involved in the relief works.

The police said that more than a dozen people have been disappeared in the incident.

Earlier, one person was killed and over a dozen shops were swept away by a landslide in the mid-part of Kalikot and Dailekh last week. The disaster caused a loss of more than Rs 5 million. RSS
