Govt to dispatch aircraft to Afghanistan to bring back bodies and injured

Kathmandu, June 21: The government has decided to send an aircraft to bring home the bodies of Nepali nationals killed and those injured in the terrorist suicide attack in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Kamal Thapa, tweeted to make public the decision mentioning that necessary preparations were being made.

A Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) aircraft will leave for Afghanistan today and return with the dead bodies and those injured in the attack on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

A meeting was held at the Ministry among high officials of the security agencies, NAC, Health Ministry and Foreign Employment Department in this connection.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Bharat Raj Poudel, confirmed the decision to dispatch an aircraft to bring home the dead bodies and Nepali nationals injured in the attack.

At least 12 Nepali security guards working at the Canadian Embassy – located in the high-security Green Zone in Kabul – were killed during the attack on Monday.

The Nepal Government has strongly condemned and denounced the attack.

The security guards were heading towards the Canadian Embassy in a mini bus when the terrorist struck with suicide bomb attack at 9:40 am on Monday.

Nepal’s Charge d’Affaires in Pakistan has left for Kabul to manage the treatment of the injured Nepali nationals and retrieve the bodies of those killed in the attack.

The official figure shows that 3,323 Nepali nationals are currently working in Afghanistan. RSS
