Kathmandu, Nov 14: The Federal Alliance submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister today, calling on the government to register a constitution amendment bill in the Legislature-Parliament within 15 days to address its demands.

A delegation of the Alliance led by chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Alliance coordinator, Upendra Yadav and comprising leaders of the Madhes-centric political parties in the alliance handed over the memorandum to the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his office in Singha Durbar.

Noting that the main achievement of the Alliance’s movement was the downfall of the KP Oli-led government, the Alliance demanded implementation of the agreement signed among the Alliance, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Unity Centre) at the time o the formation of the present government.

The Madhes-centric parties associated with the Alliance have been carrying out protest movement pressing for fulfillment of demands especially the demarcation of the province borders, citizenship and proportional inclusive representation based on population, among others.

The memorandum further states – “It is necessary to address the important issues as federalism, national identity, representation in the state apparatuses on the basis of population, proportional and inclusive representation, good governance, electoral system, the federal judicial system and elimination of the caste-based, regional and gender based discrimination and inequality, in such a way that the issues of the Madhesis, indigenous nationalities, among others are addressed.”

The Alliance has also mentioned in the memorandum that it would be compelled to again resort to a protest movement if the amendment proposal is not registered within the set deadline.

Talking to the media after handing over the memorandum, Alliance coordinator Yadav said that Prime Minister Dahal has taken the topics they have raised in a positive way and as a challenge, and also expressed his determination to work to resolve the problem.

Parliamentary party leader of the Federal Socialist Forum, Ashok Kumar Rai said he felt that after talks with the Prime Minister the works related to the constitution amendment for correcting it have reached the highest point.

Sadbhavana Party chairman Rajendra Mahato said although there is room for optimism as the Prime Minister has taken the memorandum in a positive light, one could not rest assured until the constitution amendment bill is registered.

President of the Sanghiya Sadbhavana Party Anil Kumar Jha stated that they informed the Prime Minister of the situation in which they would be compelled to go for a protest movement if the amendment proposal was not registered within the 15-day deadline that has been given for that purpose. RSS
