Kathmandu, Nov 19: The Guru Nanak Dev Sewa Society today took out a goodwill rally to mark the 500 years of the arrival of the founder of Sikhism in Nepal.
The rally attended by Sikh religion’s representatives started from Thapathali and ended at Balaju. Representatives from Malaysia, the UK and California of the US also took part in the rally, Society’s Nepal Coordinator Nirmal Akhada’s Swami Gokulananda said.
The Nirmal Akhada based at Pashupati has been providing free morning meals for 300 hapless people and sages every day. Swami Gokulananda said Guru Nanak will be honoured and his sermons recited at the Sumargi Bhawan from November 23 to 25.
During the Malla era, Guru Nanak travelled to Nepal from Banaras and stayed here for 11 months. Nanak was born on April 15, 1469 in Panjab of Pakistan and died on September 22, 1539 in Kartarpur.
The Sikhism’s followers believe that all religions have only one God, and lead truthful life, respect among human beings, social justice and oppose reactionary views and blind religion. RSS
