Parliament meeting obstructed for the third time

Kathmandu, Dec 4: The meeting today of the Legislature-Parliament has been postponed without entering into the business of the day, as a result of the obstruction by the main opposition CPN-UML. The UML has been obstructing the house taking over the presentation of the constitution amendment bill by the government.

This is the third meeting that the UML has obstructed since the bill was registered on November 29. Soon after the meeting began today, the MPs of the opposition party stood from their respective seats and stopped the meeting from taking its due course of the day.

Following this Speaker Onsari Gharti gave time to Anuradha Thapa Magar of Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party to speak. MP Thapa Magar said the constitution was being amended under pressure and influence of India, which she said has put the country’s sovereignty at risk. She was said that parties in Nepal were uniting and breaking up at the direction of foreign forces.

Raising objection over the second statement by MP Thapa Magar, RPP’s Sushil Kumar Shrestha argued that no foreign element was involved in uniting his party. Other RPP MPs joined in the protest, prompting the Speaker to direct the parliament secretariat to edit out the statement.

Soon after Thapa Magar ended here statement, members of parliament of the opposition party stood from their respective seats, prompting the Speaker to request all to help mover the parliamentary proceedings to resolve the problem through the parliament. With no positive response received, the Speaker announced the postponement of the parliament meeting for 1:00 pm December 7. RSS
