The administration’s directive comes following news about the delay in the road widening works causing inconvenience to commuters and in the transportation of goods.

As per the directive, this section of the road shall be closed for vehicular movement from 10.30 am to 3pm daily following monitoring to be conducted by a team headed by the Chief District Officer for carrying out the road expansion works. Before this, the road used to be closed for vehicles from 11 am to 3 pm every day.

Similarly, from now on only ambulances would be allowed during the time the road is closed. Prior to this, vehicles said to be carrying essential goods used to be let in.

The administration has also decided to allow motorcycles, small vehicles, bus, truck and other low-speed vehicles in that order when the road is opened for traffic in a bid to reducing traffic jam.

Likewise, the big containers would be allowed to operate from 12 midnight till 4am.

The contractors concerned have been directed to keep a scavator and power trailer each to remove any vehicle from the road within 20 minutes if it becomes dysfunctional and blocks the road.

Likewise, the contractors have been instructed to regularly sprinkle water and fill the potholes on the road.

Directives have also been issued to put 40 traffic signals and convex lenses at 40 different turnings on the road to prevent accidents. RSS
