It is estimated that 60 thousand skilled human resources are required for constructing private houses in the 14 districts. However, the Ministry of Urban Development has trained only 15 thousand people for this purpose so far.

“The Ministry has prepared the syllabus and the format for the training and various NGOs are providing training accordingly. So far, 15 thousand people have taken the training. We have the information that among those taking the training many are engaged in other occupations without joining the reconstruction. Information has been received from the districts that people are not interested in taking the training,” Chief of the Ministry’s Central Project Implementation Unit, Shivahari Sharma, said.

The reconstruction of only 18 thousand of the 750 thousand houses has started in the 14 districts. Engineers deputed for the reconstruction works in the districts have been complaining lack of skilled masons. The Ministry has circulated 17 different models of earthquake resistance houses to each district.

The unit has also presented a special action plan to the National Reconstruction Authority for increasing the number of skilled human resources. RSS
