The sluggish construction works have increased doubt whether the project would be able to supply drinking water brought from Melamchi before upcoming Dashain festival in October. 

Lawmaker Mohan Bahadur Basnet, speaking in the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee under the Legislature-Parliament today, urged for discussing the sluggish construction works in the upcoming meeting of the committee.

The construction works have been obstructed in Melamchi’s origin. The tunnel construction works for the project from Helambu Rural Municipality to Gokarnaeshwar Municipality is in progress where 23.23 km tunnel has been constructed out of the total 27.58 kilometres.

Completing the remaining construction work before Dashain is challenging, it is stated.

Meeting passes condolence motion
The meeting also has passed a condolence motion on the demise of CPN (UML) lawmaker Dulari Devi.

Lawmaker Devi had passed away last night while undergoing treatment for injuries she sustained in a road accident in Sitamadi of India on March 16.

She was undergoing treatment in Lalitpur based B& B hospital.

The meeting was postponed after passing the motion. RSS
