Shakya had been receiving medical treatment at the Grande Hospital since five days.

Nepali Congress leader and lawmaker Bhimsen Das Pradhan said Shakya’s body would be kept at the party office at Sanepa for paying tributes before being cremated at local Teku Dobhan later in the afternoon today.

Shakya was the Minister for Supplies in the Interim Council of Ministers in 1990. He was put in jail after demonstrating against the sacking of then Prime Minister BP Koirala by King Mahendra on December 15, 1960, carrying black flag.

He became popular as Marshal Julum Shakya since that time and was continuously associated with the struggle for restoration of democracy in the country. RSS
