The NHRC has launched investigation into the incident after a complaint was lodged, said NHRC Secretary Bed Bhattarai, adding that four minor girls had drown in a pit dug for road expansion at Garuda Municipality-4 of the district on Saturday.
Issuing a press release today, he informed that an NHRC team from the Regional Office, Janakpur, has reached the place of incident. “Development is human rights but while implementing right to development, human rights must be protected,” underscored Secretary Bhattarai in the press release.
Government must be responsible to protect the rights of its citizens, especially the children, women, elderly people and people with disability, reminded the NHRC.
The NHRC further said it was worrying that the carelessness of construction company, and indifference on the part of the government body which resulted in the loss of life. It must not repeat, the NHRC warned.
The government has also been demanded to take punitive measures against the culprit while providing compensation to the victim families. RSS
