The leftist alliance leaders participating in the all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today urged the government to carry out the works that it needed to do from its side for handing over the government rein expeditiously. The meeting held discussions on the National Assembly elections also. The all-party meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar.
Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, speaking to journalists after the meeting, said that the government would assign the temporary capitals of the provinces and the province chiefs after carrying out necessary home work to that connection. He added that regarding fixing the date for the National Assembly election, the government would fix the date after consulting with the Election Commission.
CPN (UML) vice-chairman Bhim Bahadur Rawal said they drew the serious attention of the meeting to the delay in handing over the government power and getting to stop the proportional representation election results of the House of Representatives in the context of new people’s mandate.
“When we urged the government to take a decision on the province capitals and chiefs before the elections, it did not listen to us. We have clearly put forth our view that now let the government carry out the constitutional and legal works required for handing over the government reins expeditiously, and it desist from taking decisions on matters of long-term impact and from promotion and transfer of civil servants,” he said.
The UML vice-chairman accused the government of putting pressure on the Election Commission to stop announcing the full election results.
CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said they apprised the government to respect the public mandate expressed through the election and that any delay from its side in handing over the power would not be tolerable for them.
The meeting was attended by Nepali Congress president and PM Deuba, senior leader Poudel, general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala; Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; NC leaders Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar and Krishna Prasad Sitaula; UML vice-chairman Rawal and leaders Subas Nembang, deputy secretary general Bishnu Poudel and Agni Kharel; Maoist Centre leaders Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’; Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum leader Rajendra Shrestha and the presidium member of the Rastriya Janata Party, Rajendra Mahato, among other leaders.
