Inaugurating the fifth national general convention of National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs at Ratnanagar in Chitwan today, he said the public transport sector has been contributing 10 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.
Noting that the country now is heading towards political stability, Vice-President Pun said, “The election to the National Assembly is taking place soon and the province government will be formed immediately after the election”. He urged all to zero in their efforts for country’s economic prosperity.
The Vice-President suggested the transport sector to be tech-savvy, passenger-friendly, qualitative and attractive. He also stressed the need to enable environment to use public transport by avoiding private vehicles.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sita Gurung said the Ministry has taken the problems of transport entrepreneurs seriously while pledging to introduce policy reforms in transport sector.
Altogether 2,300 general convention representatives and observers are participating in the general convention. The general convention will elect an 83-member committee.
