Rupandehi, April 30 (RSS): Prime Minister KP Sharm Oli has said that the government was committed to develop Lumbini as an attractive destination.
Addressing a programme orgaised in Lumbini on the occasion of 2562nd Buddha Jayanti today, Prime Minister Oli said they wanted to develop Lumbini as the most sacred place.
He said the ideology of the Buddha is still relevant, important and everlasting in the present context, adding that there is no disputing the fact that Buddha was born in Nepal.
Prime Minister Oli said that the government was committed for the development of places like Devdaha, Tilaurakot and Ramgram which are related to the life of the Buddha.
He said, “Lumbini is not only the religious, tourism site, but also the centre of knowledge and meditation.”
Similarly, Chief Minister of Province No 5, Shankar Pokhrel, said that the Buddha had invented a new philosophy for the wellbeing and progress of human beings.
Stressing the need of integrated development of Tilaurakot, Devdaha and Ramgram, Chief Minister Pokharel said that they wanted to celebrate Buddha Jayanti as the national festival of the province.
On the occasion, PM Oli honoured four best employees, two excellent employees and one outstanding employee of the Lumbini Development Trust. The best employees were honoured with Rs 10,000 each, the two excellent employees received Rs 20,000 each and the outstanding employee was honoured with Rs 30,000.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari had inaugurated the programme chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari.
