
Biratnagar, May 4: Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Loktantrik), Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar has filed his candidacy seeking re-election from the party’s general convention that is underway here.
Gachchhadar registered his candidature to the post of party chairman at 10.30 am today. His candidacy was proposed and seconded by five members each.
Party vice-chairman Bharatendu Mallik, party’s Dhanusha district chairman Umashankar Aragariya, Kavre district chairman Govinda Bahadur Thapa, Nawalparasi chairman Subhash Giri and central member (Kathmandu) Baburam Pokharel proposed his candidacy.
Similarly, the party’s Chitwan district chairman Jokha Prasad Chaudhari, Kathmandu district chairman Rudra Prasad Shrestha, Morang district chairman Bhaktinath Majhi, Sunsari district chairman Pradip Chaudhari and central member Mahesh Dutta seconded the proposal.
Speaking on the occasion, Gachchhadar expressed the belief that he would be elected the unopposed party chairman by the general convention. He said efforts would be made towards having the unanimous central members in the election taking place in a democratic process. “Election would be held if efforts towards having unanimity fail,” he said.
According to Information Officer Sunil Ranjan Singh, election is taking place for the 42 central member posts. Nomination papers for the 21 posts under the open category and as many posts under the inclusive quota have been filed. Among the reserved posts out of the 42 central member posts, four are reserved for Madhesis and two each for women, hill dalit, Madhesi dalit, Madhesi indigenous nationalities, hill indigenous nationalities, backward classes and Khas Arya. One central member post has been reserved for the Karnali region.
The registration fee for the post of party chairman is Rs 25 thousand and for central member is five thousand rupees. Many party members wishing to vie for the central member have commented that the registration fee is high. RSS
