
At the conference, the forum coordinator and expert at the Language Commission Harischandra Lawati presented a concept paper on ‘Why and how Limbu the official language of province no. 1’ while linguist Dilendra Kurumba presented a basis paper on the nomenclature of province no.1.
Speaking on the occasion, newly elected parliamentarian of province no. 1 Sita Thebe pledged to make maximum efforts to ensure that Limbu language is the official language of the province.
After Nepali and Maithili, Limbu would be third language in province no. 1 to be eligible for provincial language, the forum member Kurumba said. Of the 4.5 million population of the province, 331,658 are from the Limbu community.
Delegates from Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Terhathum, Dhankuta and Paanchthar are taking part in the conference.
