Lalitpur, March 22 (RSS): The women police in Lalitpur district are in a fix how to manage the women and children at risk as the district lacks a government rehabilitation home for such underprivileged people.
Chief of the Lalitpur District Women Police Cell, Inspector Chanchala Shrestha said they are compelled to keep such women and children in their barracks for couple of days for lack of a government rehabilitation facility for women at risk.
“The locals bring such people to the police station from the streets and we try to send them to the rehabilitation centres run by the non-governmental organisations. But the NGOs have their own problems and are hesitant to take them citing they are not from their working area or lack of accommodation facility or sometimes they could take them only during office time,” she said.
The police is facing problem managing such abandoned people, mostly lunatics, for lack of a government rehabilitation facility for these people. One comes across three or four such neglected lunatics on the streets on Lagankhel-Jawalakhel road section also because the mental hospital is located at Lagankhel.
“The locals bring such people to us and we are in predicament where to keep them,” Inspector Shrestha said, adding that even if they keep such women in barracks they pester the police women.
