
Kathmandu, July 20: A woman held hostage by her husband over dowry issues has been finally rescued by the police. She was freed Tuesday.
Police was reported that Anil Kumar Yadav of Udaypurghurmi of Birgunj Sub Metropolis-30 had taken her wife hostage for the past ten days for not bringing dowry as per his expectation.
A police squad from the District Police Office Parsa freed the victim. It was Mamata’s father Ramayodhya Yadav who informed the police about the incident. He also claimed that his daughter was suffering physical assaults from his son-in-law for a long as they failed to give her dowry as per the expectations of her family. This time, she was held hostage in her home with hands and legs tied up with rope, he said.
District Police Office Parsa’s Inspector Yam Bahadur Gurung said the accused is in police custody and is being interrogated for his alleged crime. He will be tried for a case under the Domestic Violence (Crime and Punishment) Act-2008.
Their wedding was held some six years ago as per the Hindu rituals and at that time Mamata’s parents gave their son-in-law cash of Rs 400,000 and a motorcycle, as said by Mamata’s father. RSS
