Nepal Communist Party (NCP) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has described the constitution as the world’s unique document seeking honesty for its implementation.
Taking part in an interaction on ” children in the constitution’ organised today by the National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation (N-PABSON) on the occasion of the Constitution Day, the former Prime Minister said the constitution incorporated sentiments of all, and again discussions could be continued on some issues in this regard.
Despite enormous challenges and hurdles, we became successful in promulgating the constitution, setting an example that we should take ownership of. He spoke the need for role from all quarters to make it successful.
He took time to echo the need for bringing polices and programme putting the interest of child at the centre and encouraging children to participate in a social life. Likewise, Minister for Children, Women and Senior Citizens Thammaya Thapa said the constitution had addressed the people of all regions, class and levels and it was one of best constitutions in the world. According to her, the document has guaranteed the fundamental rights of children.
Stating that the Ministry was serious and sensitive about the implementation of rights of children guaranteed by the constitutions, she called children as future of the nation, and stressed that the three-tier government should do their best to establish child’s rights.
Similarly, Nepali Congress leader Gururaj Ghimire described the use of children in violence as a means of fulfilling self interest of any particular group and as a wrong trend and culture. He sought affordable and quality education for children.
Guardians’ Federation chair Suprabhat Bhandari expressed his concern over the persistent dropout rates in secondary level education and sought an end to child labour. According to him, these factors are among major hurdles to the implementation of child rights.
N-PABSON chair Ritu Raj Sapkota demanded an end to the culture of educational strike and contribution of private schools to the education sector.
